Magazine Research 1

     The magazine I am making is a high-school sports magazine. The magazine I did research on is a Sports Illustrated Magazine titled "The Bulls Eye." The cover layout is pretty generic as far as these issues usually look, having a big picture of an athlete in the middle with little article titles scattered around him. Some colors that are utilized are the dark, earthy tones of dark green, gray, white, and black. Articles in this issue of Sports Illustrated talk about behind the scenes photos on page 54, and the main article about quarterback Carson Wentz on page 26. There are many ads in this magazine, and one that caught my eye was a Polo cologne ad between two articles on page 31 of the magazine. On the cover, table of contents, and in the articles there are many pictures shown. These pictures are of star athletes and especially whoever the article is talking about, to give the reader a better idea of who they're reading about. This specific magazine has not won any awards.

3rd Quarter Submission Feedback

My class reviewed my 3rd Quarter Submission and gave some solid feedback. For my cover, everyone seemed to like it, I received nothing but positive comments. There were suggestions on the TOC though, as my text was a little hard to see on the board. I plan on making it a tad bigger, and making the borders more defined. Throughout the article, I plan to change a few pictures, and define my page numbers more with some branding.

Conventions/Social Groups

How does your product challenge conventions of your genre?           The magazines I researched were mainly Sports Illustrated issues, and I took many ideas and incorporated them into my magazine. I tried to replicate the exact title font, and took ideas such as the page numbers being included on the title. I also added my own twist to the generic Sports Illustrated issues. How does it represent social groups or issues?      The social groups my issue are mainly targeting are High Schoolers and just people in the area that may be interested. I plan to hand the magazine out at school and hopefully go to some local businesses to see if they will have my magazine at their store.
